Violence Prevention through Bodybuilding: How Bodybuilding Can Lead to Peace

By Dmitri Goudkov ’03. Available on Amazon, February 2018.

Is bodybuilding pretty much about oiled-up guys wearing tiny swim trunks flexing their muscles and grunting in order to win in what seems to most uninitiated folks as freak shows? The answer is no. Such burlesque examples are just a miniscule part of what bodybuilding can truly offer. The word “bodybuilding” itself has it all: building a muscular body requires a methodical approach to planning, executing, persevering, and rejoicing. Ultimately, having learned and used the principles of building their own bodies…bodybuilding can prevent violence when, instead of getting trapped in the narcissism of bodybuilding, young men learn that controlling their destinies is similar to controlling their muscles.
